RESOURCES AND MATERIALS We built our reputation around finding and using small, craft oriented shops and artisans in the Northwest. We have involved many artists in our projects as well. Due in part to our approach and support, we have watched a community develop of small artist-owned businesses providing artist-made building parts and finishes. Our ties to this community allow us to bring very unique resources to projects and we think the results are tremendous. We are committed to the craft tradition of the Northwest and continue to search for new resources and expressions of craft. In recent years, the unique demands of our projects have given us the opportunity to develop and maintain a significant network of craft resources from around the world. It sounds exotic, but its surprisingly practical. Although the Northwest is rich in talented craftspeople, in some cases products or services we need are not readily available at the necessary scale. When demand exceeds local availability, the result can be compromised quality, extended construction schedules, or reduced value or greater cost. As we expand our search for the right people to perform their specialties we discover that a singular and highly prized skill in one part of the world can be relatively commonplace in another. By cultivating enduring relationships with a diverse array of specialists, we are able to provide just the right products for our projects with the knowledge that value is a significant part of the equation. Since 1997, the artisans in this network hail from Tunisia to Wales to Italy, from British Columbia to Japan, from Buffalo to Baltimore, from Los Angeles to St. George, Utah. We are extremely proud of our ability to provide this network of craftspeople as a resource to design professionals and clients alike. |
